Recently I caught a few minutes of a news cast describing how the easily offended have their feathers ruffled at those of us who actually believe men and women are different creatures. Either gender is equal in worth but they are not equal in many other ways.
Some feminists and others who are perpetual victims of something are offended by these words.
Fireman, policeman, jorneyman plumber, fisherman, etc, etc,. Every word with “man” or “men” in it just makes these cause oriented creatures cringe. As someone in the news report asked, what will they do with the words huMAN and MANkind? And what of the horrible word woMan?
Maybe some of these sensitive sisters need some education.
The English word “man” has more meaning than gender designation. The first definition of the word “man” is: An individual human. Then secondly, an adult male human. (Mirriam-Webb Dictionary)
In fact, the first mention of this species is in the first book of the Bible. One of those mentions goes like this. “When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God. Male and female he created them, and he blessed them and named them Man when they were created.” (Genesis 5:1 ESV)
So don’t get all upset girls (and girly men), see, there is no harm, no fowl, in being called man either as a part of a word or in the use that separates you from the other animals on earth.
If it becomes uncouth or even unlawful to use the word “manly” what word would I use to describe some of those offended gals? (I’ve never been fond of “butch”, it seems too demeaning).
Every person on earth is the result of a sexual union between two humans, a male and a female, a man and a woman. It’s God’s design, and try as you might you can’t change that fact. People can pervert what is the natural order but they can’t change it.
I am for equal rights for women! I am all in! I am not pretending though that men and women are equal. Equal in worth? Yes! Equal physically and emotionally? No. A woman who is doing the same job for the same company as a man, and doing the job as well, should be paid an equal amount. I am for punishment of employers who fail to promote any person of any gender in favor of another who is either equal or less qualified for the job based on gender, sexual orientation, or familial status.
I really like women! My mother was a woman. That being said I strongly object to changing the English language because of a few whiners of either gender. MAN up!
